Giving talent a chance

Martin James Bartlett and Julian Lloyd Webber support AYM’s Ambition1000 campaign

Wow, what an evening we had on Monday 22 June.  Introduced by AYM patron Julian Lloyd Wbber, 18 year old pianist Martin James Bartlett  (AYM Alumnus and winner of the 2014 BBC Young Musician) performed an exciting programme of Mozart, Rachmaninov and Prokofiev in an intimate concert to raise funds for our Ambition1000‬ campaign.  The concert was very kindly hosted by Bob and Elizabeth Boas at their central London home.

Martin, at just 9 years old, received the first of several large grants from AYM in 2005, towards his musical progression, including help with his RCMJD fees, and with the considerable costs of buying sheet music. In 2006 he was one of only four young musicians from across the UK to whom we awarded a three-year grant.

Of Monday’s concert he says:

“It was such a wonderful opportunity to perform this concert for AYM and an honour to meet Julian Lloyd Webber who was so encouraging and inspiring. Performing brought back so many special and unforgettable memories of my time with AYM.  I will always be grateful for their immense support and advice over the years which has enabled me to grow and develop as a musician.”

Here he is after the performance with some of our current Award winners, who attended the concert as young ambassadors.
