Awards for Young Musicians

Giving talent a chance

Appeals

We are continually fund-raising to support our work: without our many supporters we just wouldn’t exist!

Our current donor appeals are Ambition 1000 and the annual Big Give Challenge. The funding from both feeds directly  into our two main programmes AYM’s Annual Awards and also Furthering Talent.

The investment made in the young people we’re helping by our generous donors has significant impacts:

For example Lewis, now 21, a clarinettist and in his final year at the Royal College of Music told us:

When I found out I had actually managed to receive the top funding available for an award from you I began to believe a bit more in myself – that I had the ability to achieve great things if I just committed myself to it. This has stuck with me since (I have never been one for self confidence).

I have been mentored by Richard Hosford, principal clarinet at the BBC Symphony Orchestra, who is quite possibly the best, if the most severe, teacher I have ever had. My most prominent performance so far was with the RCM Philharmonic Orchestra in which I played first clarinet in Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony: and the clarinet was paid for by AYM!
