Awards for Young Musicians

Giving talent a chance

Performing live

Performing live is the lifeblood of a musician. Over the years we’ve arranged for our young musicians to take part in high profile live performances, concerts, recitals, gigs and fundraisers across the UK. Young people have told us how it’s boosted their confidence, given them a target to aim for and has helped them to think differently about playing for an audience rather than just for practice.

AYM’s live performances benefit the young people we’re helping and also raise our profile at major venues and with key partners, building further awareness of the value and importance of our work.

At these concerts young musicians perform to a new and unknown audience, which can be quite intimidating: this makes for a very different experience from the school concerts and festivals which comprise most of their performances. By doing this we offer them the ultimate joy for any practising musician – a platform to play with each other.” Julia Roth, AYM’s volunteer programmer.

We encourage our patrons and supporters to get involved: Sir Vernon and Lady Ellis hosted a concert at their home in South Kensington, featuring AYM Patron, Miloš Karadaglic and we are very lucky that several of our supporters frequently offer their homes for evening recitals. Award winners now regularly take part in gigs at Symphony Hall in Birmingham, prior to CBSO family concerts, have taken part at AYM’s patron Charles Hazlewood’s Orchestival at Glastonbury Abbey, performed at the top of the BT Tower for the Transformation Trust – and literally at the top of the British Isles itself, by the Castle of Mey in collaboration with North Highland Connections. After our major success in front of a large audience of distinguished guests at Mr Speaker’s House at the House of Commons, including The Charterhouse, London, we’re continuing to create new showcase opportunities.
