Giving talent a chance

Mentoring

Becoming a musician in the 21st century is a complicated business; no one musician’s journey will be the same as another’s. Like all creative people, a musician’s career continues to evolve and develop as they explore new possibilities within an ever-changing industry.

That’s why for all the young people it supports AYM seeks mentoring support from individuals and/or organisations, working across the musical landscape.

Our extensive network of colleagues across the UK means that we can connect opportunities for our young musicians with individuals or organisations who share our passion for nurturing young talent. We work with individual professional players as well as ensembles.

Professional musicians can help provide complementary support to the young musicians’ ongoing musical tuition, acting as positive role-models who can help expand a young person’s musical understanding and help them explore new avenues and ideas.

AYM also works with our orchestral colleagues and other musical partners to enable the young people we support to access a rich range of musical opportunities they’d never otherwise have access to. The orchestras we’re currently directly working with include the CBSO and the ECO.

For us, it’s all about helping to give young people the tools they need to shape their own musical future.
