Our partners
AYM is collaborative and strategic by nature so identifying partnerships is central to our approach. It’s only by working tactically with our colleagues that we can truly provide the richness of support that talented young people from low income families really need.
We have developed an extensive network of partners across the UK: we always work with those who have an organisational fit with our work and who share our commitment to helping young musicians overcome the barriers they face to fulfilling their potential. In active pursuit of creating new opportunities for our Award winners, we now have a number of positive, new partnerships. We are building our collaboration with the Music Education Hubs and our orchestral partners; we’re also extending our work with organisations that specialise in a particular genre, including the English Chamber Orchestra and Milapfest.
-
English Chamber Orchestra
We are working with the English Chamber Orchestra to produce intensive learning opportunities for young musicians in a supportive and challenging ensemble music-making environment. -
Live Music Now Scotland
This exciting partnership offers our young musicians the chance to be mentored by and with young professionals in Scotland. -
Milapfest
Each year, in partnership with Milapfest we offer six fellowship Awards of up to £750 specifically for young musicians studying Indian Music -
Youth Music
AYM has received generous funding from Youth Music which supports our advocacy and CPD work in the sector.
English Chamber Orchestra
AYM and the ECO have been working together for two years to give our Award winners the chance to intensively explore and perform chamber music repertoire in a series of partnership projects. Thanks to generous funding from The Elias Fawcett Charitable Trust they’ve been discovering the works of composers including Holst, Beethoven, Handel, Haydn and then sharing their learning through performances at Cadogan Hall and the Handel House Museum.
The ECO has also been our orchestral partner for AYM’s sixth annual Awards Day: young people we’re supporting from all over the UK and right across genres came together for a fantastic day of music making at the Royal College of Music in London.
Live Music Now Scotland
AYM has recently joined forces to form a new collaboration with Live Music Now Scotland, to enable some of AYM’s Scottish young musicians to work with young professionals in Scotland on a mentoring programme whereby they’ll perform together in a range of venues such as old people’s homes, schools, and other community settings.
It’s a great way to give young people who’ve not yet entered the profession an insight into both the challenges and the creative inspiration of working and performing in settings beyond the conventional stage. We’re very grateful to The Nimar Trust whose funding has made this possible
Milapfest
AYM and Milapfest share a commitment to progressing the musical potential of young people and Milapfest works to create and develop high quality performance programmes that showcase the rich diversity of Indian culture and performing arts. We’ve collaborated to launch six Awards to students of Indian music up to the value of £750 which can be used towards training in the UK, instrument purchase or travelling costs for advanced training in India.
We’re delighted that these Awards were available once again for 2015 so if you’re a talented young musician playing Indian music visit our Awards page to find out more.
The application process for these Awards is the same as for our other Awards. Please read the guidelines carefully before applying.
Youth Music
Both AYM and Youth Music seek to give young people the chance to progress in their music-making and to encourage their talent and potential. We began collaborating in 2009 when we hosted the first in what’s become a highly influential series of roundtables exploring new models for musical progression. Since 2011 AYM has also received generous funding support from Youth Music. Initially we were awarded Spotlighting funding (aimed at highlighting and sharing examples of good practice in music education) to help us develop the film-resources element of our Spotting and Supporting Musical Talent and Potential programme. Since then we’ve been awarded two major grants to support two further series of the AYM-hosted Musical Progression Roundtables during 2012/13 and 2013/14.
